Worker Killed in Hrodna After Forklift Overturns

The Investigative Committee is investigating the death of a 39-year-old worker in Hrodna. He was crushed by a forklift in early May. A 48-year-old foreman has been named as a suspect in the case.

According to investigators, the foreman instructed the worker to load marble chips packed in soft polypropylene containers into a vehicle using a forklift.

“While on the loading platform of a covered warehouse, the man began carrying out the task when the overloaded equipment overturned and crushed him. Colleagues pulled the victim out from under the machinery, but he was already unconscious. The arriving ambulance crew pronounced him dead,” the Investigative Committee said.

The foreman said he knew the deceased did not have authorization to operate a forklift and was not qualified to use it, but nevertheless gave the instruction. Investigators also established that the deceased had previously been repeatedly assigned tasks outside his official duties that required special qualifications.

A criminal case has been opened under Part 2 of Article 306 of the Criminal Code — violation of occupational safety rules resulting in death by negligence.
