A 65-year-old welder died at a former industrial site in Mahiliou where repair and construction work is underway. The accident occurred on the morning of July 9.
According to the Investigative Committee, the man opened the doors of a freight elevator intending to go down one floor. Without checking whether the elevator cabin was in place, he stepped into the empty shaft. He fell about six metres and sustained fatal injuries, the Investigative Committee reported.
Investigators established that the workshop building had not yet been commissioned, and the upper floors could only be accessed by staircases. The Mahiliou Interdistrict Department of the Investigative Committee is conducting an inquiry.
