Vilnius And Kaunas Airports Suspend Operations Due To Weather Balloons From Belarus

Airports in Vilnius and Kaunas, Lithuania, have suspended operations after meteorological balloons were detected flying toward them from Belarus.

Air traffic at Vilnius Airport was halted from 20:31 until 2:00 on October 25, while operations at Kaunas Airport were suspended from 20:36 until 2:00.

Lithuania also temporarily closed border checkpoints with Belarus.

Earlier, on the night of October 22, Vilnius Airport had also suspended operations due to weather balloons coming from Belarus. The border was closed from 2:30 to 9:00. Lithuania has said it is prepared to close the border for a longer period if the situation with the balloons repeats. Belarus was handed a note of protest.
