Vilnius Airport was once again out of operation last night because of smugglers’ balloons. It was closed shortly before midnight.
“Temporary airspace restrictions were introduced over Vilnius Airport on 28 November from 23:15. According to preliminary information, the decision to impose the restrictions was also influenced by navigation signatures characteristic of balloons moving toward the airport,” the airport said in a statement.
The airspace closure was extended several times. The airport ultimately resumed operations today at 07:03 (08:03 Minsk time).
Some flights were redirected to other airports, including Kaunas. Other flights were cancelled or rescheduled.
