Viktar Lukashenka Meets Head of Oman Olympic Committee

Viktar Lukashenka, President of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus, met with Azzan Al Said, head of the Oman Olympic Committee, in Muscat.

The sides discussed intensifying cooperation in the field of sports and agreed to actively develop relations between federations in individual sports, including athletics, weightlifting, swimming, taekwondo, cycling and fencing.

“The main areas of cooperation, including through the relevant sports federations, will be: participation of athletes in bilateral and multisport competitions in both countries, organization of joint training camps, mutual exchange of sports specialists (coaches, doctors and experts), cooperation in youth sports, participation in congresses, conferences, seminars and courses, exchange of experience in construction and maintenance of sports facilities, sports medicine, marketing, organization of sports events and much more,” the NOC press service said.

“We have established good, friendly relations with the Oman Olympic Committee. We will reinforce the agreements reached and previously signed with concrete actions. Before visiting you, we conducted a survey among our sports federations to clarify in which areas we can most effectively develop our cooperation. Despite the distance between us, Omanis and Belarusians are similar in many ways. Everything we can do, all the expertise we have — we will show and help develop the areas and sports that are of interest to Oman. At the same time, I am sure there is much we can learn from you,” Lukashenka said.

Azzan Al Said noted that Oman would like to learn from Belarus in training athletes and study how to achieve success at world championships and the Olympic Games.

Lukashenka invited his Omani counterpart to visit Belarus.

Viktar Lukashenka arrived in Oman together with Alyaksandr Lukashenka on 28 November. He attended the meeting with Oman’s Sultan Haytham bin Tariq Al Said.
