Ukraine will not carry out air strikes against Russia during the visit of U.S. representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner and expects Moscow to do the same. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this on Sept. 4.
According to Zelenskyy, representatives of Donald Trump will first visit Moscow and then arrive in Kyiv on Sunday.
To ensure the safety of the U.S. delegation, Ukraine will refrain from air strikes against Russia and expects reciprocal action from Russia.
“We are preparing for this visit. A meeting was held with our broad diplomatic team — specifically those who work with America. And, just as was the case during previous diplomatic visits by the American side, we will ensure the normal functioning of Russian airspace so that the negotiators can arrive safely. We are concerned specifically about them, not Russia. There will be no air strikes from our side, and Russia should reciprocally ensure silence, without its own air strikes, for the time necessary to hold these talks and resolve logistical issues related to this American visit,” Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian president stressed that Kyiv is committed to a constructive and substantive visit and talks with the U.S. side.
“We need to look for real options for bringing this war to an end. We will see what proposals Steve and Jared have and what they will be told about them in Moscow,” he said.
