Two Foreign Nationals Attempted To Bring Large Amounts Of Undeclared Cash Into Belarus

Two 45-year-old foreign nationals entered Belarus from Poland and failed to declare more than $75,000 each. Belarusian customs officers discovered the cash and opened criminal cases under Part 2 of Article 228 of the Criminal Code, the Brest Region Prosecutor’s Office reported.

On January 28, the foreign nationals entered Belarus in a passenger car. When filling out the declaration, they indicated the temporary import of the vehicle and the transport of a dog but did not declare any cash. Customs officers found the money in personal luggage and inside the vehicle. The foreigners explained that they were unaware of the declaration rules.

The cash was seized. The foreign nationals were released on bail of 11,250 Belarusian rubles each, taking into account that they have a minor child in their care.

The penalty under the article предусматривает a fine ranging from 300 to 5,000 base units, restriction of freedom, or imprisonment for up to five years.
