Tsikhanouskaya: There Is No Place for the Death Penalty in a Rule-of-Law Democratic State

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya spoke out against the death penalty in Belarus in connection with the Week Against the Death Penalty, which will take place from October 5 to 10. Belarus remains the only country in Europe where death sentences are carried out.

“Human life is the highest value. There is no place for the death penalty in a rule-of-law democratic state, nor can there be. The Week Against the Death Penalty is an opportunity to say once again what kind of Belarus we want to see: a country where human lives and the right to life are protected by law,” the politician emphasized.

She thanked the Viasna Human Rights Centre, which “does not allow this issue to disappear from public attention.”
