Tsikhanouskaya Discusses Political Prisoners With PACE President

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met in Vienna with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Petra Bayr. They discussed participation in the work of PACE and the situation of political prisoners, the Office of the democratic forces’ leader reported.

During the meeting, the sides addressed the participation of a delegation formed by the Coordination Council in PACE sessions, work in committees, preparations for upcoming Assembly sessions, and opportunities to raise the Belarus issue there.

Tsikhanouskaya described PACE as an example of cooperation between democratic forces and parliamentary assemblies, noting that she considers this model of interaction a benchmark for other international institutions.

The sides also discussed the situation of political prisoners in Belarus, preparations for a report on Belarus, and the most critical issues facing the Belarusian community.

Tsikhanouskaya first put forward the initiative for the participation of a Belarusian delegation and the Coordination Council in the work of PACE in 2023. Later, following elections to the Coordination Council, the relevant delegation was formed.
