Tsikhanouskaya: Belarus’s Eastern Border Is Europe’s Border

During her visit to London, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya took part in a panel discussion titled “The Fight for Freedom in Eastern Europe,” held in the UK Parliament.

In her speech, the democratic leader thanked the United Kingdom for its continued support of the Belarusian people and Ukraine. She recalled the fifth anniversary of Raman Bandarenka’s death and noted that those responsible for his killing have still not been punished. Tsikhanouskaya urged the international community to increase pressure on the regime and support Lithuania’s initiatives at the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice.

“The mentality and hearts of Belarusians have not changed. They do not want to be part of Russia’s wars or imperial plans. In 2020, we won the elections — and in real elections, not staged ones, we will win again. Belarus is not Russia. It belongs to European civilization. The eastern border of Belarus is the border of Europe. Only with a democratic Belarus can Europe and democracy be safe. Only with change in Belarus can change happen in Russia,” she said.

Among the participants were former Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, Hermitage Capital founder and Magnitsky Act initiator Sir William Browder, and Shadow Foreign Secretary Priti Patel. The discussion was moderated by Dr. Alan Mendoza, head of the Henry Jackson Society.
