Tsikhanouskaya at EPP Congress: We Are Doing Everything Possible to Keep Belarus on the Agenda

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya is taking part in the congress of the European People’s Party (EPP), an alliance of centre-right political parties in the European Union.

According to her office, she participated in events marking the 50th anniversary of the EPP the day before. Tsikhanouskaya held brief talks with EPP President Manfred Weber, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

“Such meetings are especially important, as they allow Belarus to remain in the focus of international attention even amid other global crises. The main topics of discussion are work on the humanitarian track for the release of political prisoners, finding ways to fully stop repression and bring about change, investigating crimes against humanity, and supporting Belarusian media. Of course, Iran and developments in the Middle East are now at the centre of attention, but we are doing everything possible to ensure that Belarus remains on the agenda,” Tsikhanouskaya said.

Partner organisations of the EPP include Belarusian democratic parties the United Civic Party, the “For Freedom” movement, and the Belarusian Christian Democracy party.
