Valery Tsapkala said he personally thanked U.S. President’s Special Envoy for Belarus John Coale for American diplomatic efforts that led to the release of more than 300 political prisoners in 2025. According to him, Veranika Tsapkala urged British parliamentarians to nominate U.S. President Donald Trump and Coale for the Nobel Peace Prize.
“A high-level briefing took place in the UK Parliament, organised by the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Freedom and Democracy in Belarus (APPG). The meeting was opened by Shadow Foreign Secretary and APPG Chair Wendy Morton, who reaffirmed the British Parliament’s unwavering support for the democratic aspirations of the Belarusian people and the protection of human rights,” Tsapkala wrote on Facebook.
According to Tsapkala, Coale spoke at the event at the invitation of the Belarus Democratic Forum and presented “an overview of U.S. diplomatic efforts which in 2025 led to the release of around 300 political prisoners.”
“Valery Tsapkala expressed gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump and personally to John Coale for their determination and the diplomatic breakthroughs achieved. Veranika Tsapkala called on British parliamentarians to nominate Donald Trump and John Coale for the Nobel Peace Prize for their key contribution to the release of political prisoners and mediation in addressing the humanitarian crisis in Belarus,” he said.
“This initiative is a diplomatic credit of trust intended to strengthen the U.S. focus on Belarus and accelerate the release of all political prisoners, the closure of politically motivated criminal cases, and the creation of conditions for the safe return of around 500,000 forced refugees,” Tsapkala added.
Earlier, in an interview with the YouTube channel The Insider Live, Tsapkala said he had taken an active part in securing the release of political prisoners and remained in constant contact with Coale. Coale later denied those claims.
“No, he did not help. This was handled by me, President Trump, Chris Smith, and an excellent team within the U.S. government,” Coale wrote in response to follow-up questions.
