The Investigative Committee of Belarus is investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths of three employees of Kalinkavichyvodakanal.
According to the Investigative Committee, the incident occurred on September 1. A team from the company was carrying out scheduled maintenance at a sewage pumping station. The workers were cleaning household waste from “catch baskets” located in a sewage shaft containing wastewater.
A 44-year-old site supervisor and two mechanics, aged 43 and 37, were inside the station building. They stopped responding to calls. A colleague who arrived at the scene found the workers’ personal belongings inside the building and a flashlight floating in the “well.” He reported this to his superiors. Rescuers were called to the scene and recovered the bodies of the three workers.
Investigators examined the scene. Air samples and wastewater samples were taken from the shaft for testing. Occupational health and safety documentation was seized. Forensic medical examinations have been ordered to determine the exact cause of the workers’ deaths.
