Subbotin Relieved of His Post in Connection With His Resignation

Alyaksandr Subbotin, chair of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, has been relieved of his post. The wording is contained in Decree No. 11 dated January 15 on his dismissal from office, published today on Belarus’s National Legal Internet Portal.

“In accordance with Article 119 of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, Alyaksandr Mikhailavich Subbotin is relieved of the post of chair of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee in connection with his resignation,” the document says.

On Tuesday, Alyaksandr Lukashenka appointed Alyaksandr Ragozhnik as chair of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee. Ragozhnik had previously served as Belarus’s ambassador to Russia. Speaking about Subbotin’s future, Lukashenka said his competencies would be used on the “external track.” He also suggested that Subbotin may have concluded that leadership was not his calling.

“Well, maybe he burned out. Maybe he felt that it was probably not for him. After all, being a leader is very, very difficult,” Lukashenka said.
