Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) said it had strengthened security measures on the border with Belarus and Russia. The package of measures in the country’s northern regions is being implemented in accordance with a decision by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“These measures are unprecedented in terms of the number of personnel and resources involved in territories bordering Russia and Belarus and will serve as an effective deterrent against any aggressive actions or operations by the enemy and its ally.
The relevant work is being coordinated by the Anti-Terrorist Centre under the SBU and, in addition to Security Service units, also involves the National Police, the Armed Forces, the National Guard and the State Border Guard Service.
The comprehensive measures provide for large-scale preventive action in the field of counterintelligence and counter-sabotage protection in the territories of Chernihiv, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Volyn and Rivne regions,” the SBU said in a statement.
The measures are aimed at countering enemy infiltration, sabotage and subversive and intelligence activities.
In the specified regions, law enforcement agencies will carry out enhanced checks of people staying in areas where reinforced security measures have been introduced. They will also inspect territory and individual premises to identify prohibited items. The measures are being conducted in accordance with the legal framework of martial law.
The SBU warned that restrictions on pedestrian and vehicle movement through streets in certain localities may be introduced, along with document checks and vehicle inspections.
