Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) detained 63-year-old Ukrainian citizen Serhij P. He is accused of attempting to assassinate a representative of Ukraine’s defense industry in Irpin, Kyiv Region.
According to ABW, the detainee placed an explosive device under the potential victim’s car. The explosion was supposed to be triggered remotely using a mobile phone, but the device failed to detonate because of a malfunction.
After the failed assassination attempt, the suspect fled to Poland. On Aug. 5, ABW officers detained him in Warsaw.
On Aug. 6, the Ukrainian citizen was charged with attempted murder. He was remanded in custody for three months.
ABW believes that the detainee may have been acting on the instructions of Russian intelligence services.
