The foreign ministers of Belarus and Russia, Maksim Ryzhankou and Sergey Lavrov, expressed hope for a “rapid stabilisation of the situation” in Iran. This was stated in a report by the Belarusian Foreign Ministry on the phone conversation between the two ministers.
According to the Foreign Ministry, they discussed current issues of bilateral relations and the schedule of upcoming high-level and top-level meetings and events.
The situation in Iran and Venezuela was also among the topics discussed.
“The heads of the foreign ministries of Belarus and Russia noted the inadmissibility of foreign interference in the internal affairs of other states and expressed hope for the rapid stabilisation of the situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the ministry said.
Since late December, protests have continued in Iran, which the authorities have not yet been able to suppress. At the same time, U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that he may support the protesters, including by force.
