A Russian company may take part in the modernisation of Hrodna Azot. The project could be carried out by the Industrial Engineering Centre of Krastsvetmet, which was established on the basis of a subsidiary of Germany’s Thyssenkrupp acquired in 2024.
“The engineering team directly links the Nizhny Novgorod region with the modernisation of Hrodna Azot. Historically, the German Thyssenkrupp Group has been a key global player in the market for large-capacity ammonia and urea plants. After the company left Russia, Krastsvetmet fully retained the unique engineering team in Dzerzhinsk, as well as the IT infrastructure and specialised software.
Krastsvetmet and its engineering centre in Dzerzhinsk are actively working with the Belarusian side. The company has officially offered Hrodna Azot a comprehensive turnkey engineering solution for the construction of a new urea production facility,” Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Igor Zotov told SB.by.
According to him, the company designs nitrogen and chemical production complexes, including ammonia, urea and nitric acid plants. It could replace foreign contractors involved in the Belarusian plant’s modernisation.
“The plan is to modernise the existing ammonia production facility and commission the second phase of the urea production plant. The main technological concept behind the projects is the creation of a closed production cycle: modernising the existing ammonia units will provide additional feedstock, which will then be fully processed into increased urea output,” Zotov added.
