Russia Attacks Kyiv and Kyiv Region With Strike Drones and Ballistic Missiles, Including Oreshnik

During the night of May 24, Russia launched a massive combined strike against Ukraine. Kyiv was the main direction of the attack. The Ukrainian Air Force recorded 690 aerial attack assets — 90 missiles and 600 drones of various types.

Among the weapons used by Russia was the RS-26 Rubezh (Oreshnik) intermediate-range ballistic missile launched from the Kapustin Yar test range in Astrakhan Region. According to information provided by the head of communications of the Ukrainian Air Force, Yurii Ihnat, it struck the area of Bila Tserkva in Kyiv Region. Russia also used Kh-47M2 Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missiles, Zircon anti-ship missiles, Iskander ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and hundreds of Shahed-type strike drones.

Ukrainian air defence shot down or suppressed 604 targets — 55 missiles and 549 drones. Another 19 missiles, according to preliminary data, failed to reach their targets; the information is being уточified.

In Kyiv, damage was recorded in all districts of the city, with more than 40 locations affected, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko, reported. Among the affected sites were residential buildings, schools, supermarkets, shopping centres and non-residential structures.

According to the latest data from Mayor Vitalii Klitschko, two people were killed and 56 injured, including 30 hospitalised, among them two children. Rescue workers continue clearing debris and dealing with the aftermath of the attack.

According to information from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, at least 83 people have been affected since the start of the day and there are fatalities.

“The strike was severe — 90 missiles of various types, many of them ballistic — 36. Six hundred drones. Unfortunately, not all ballistic missiles were intercepted. The largest number of strikes hit Kyiv, and Kyiv was the main target of this Russian attack.

Putin can no longer even pronounce the word ‘hurrah’ properly — he mumbles — yet he still destroys residential buildings with his missiles. Three Russian missiles targeted a water supply facility, a market was burned down, dozens of residential buildings were damaged, as well as several ordinary schools. He launched his Oreshnik against Bila Tserkva. They are truly inadequate. It is important that there are consequences for Russia. Today, everyone in the world who does not remain silent and who helps Ukraine is defending life.

We are doing everything to establish peace and protect people. And it is important that Ukraine is not left alone. Decisions are needed from the United States, Europe and others so that this old nut in Moscow says the word ‘peace,’” the Ukrainian leader said.
