Riot Suppression And Hostage Rescue Drills Held In Pinsk

Command-staff exercises of Belarus’s Interior Ministry continued in Pinsk, where security forces practiced three scenarios of escalating situations in an urban environment — from dispersing crowds to a counterterrorism operation.

The first scenario focused on suppressing mass unrest.

“Officers split the crowd, isolated aggressive leaders, and used special equipment in close-contact conditions. At the same time, a UAV unit conducted reconnaissance of the surrounding area, assessed the situation, and provided information,” the Interior Ministry press service said.

The second scenario involved neutralizing armed criminals inside a building — including covert containment, reconnaissance, and a coordinated assault using stun devices.

The third and most complex scenario simulated a hostage rescue in a shopping center. Special units “Almaz,” “Rys,” and “Berkut” carried out a simultaneous assault by storming teams, evacuated civilians, and cleared the building.

According to the ministry, Interior Minister Ivan Kubrakou highly praised the coordination of the units. The exercises placed particular emphasis on interaction between special units, coordination with local authorities, and rapid decision-making.
