A repair center for Tor surface-to-air missile systems has opened in Belarus. The opening ceremony was attended by commander of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces Major General Andrei Lukianovich, head of the State Military-Industrial Committee Dzmitry Pantus, deputy director general for foreign economic activity of Almaz-Antey Air and Space Defense Corporation Vyacheslav Dzirkaln, and director general of Kupol Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant Fanil Ziyatdinov.
The center operates at the 2566th Radio-Electronic Weapons Repair Plant in Barysau. The project was implemented in cooperation with MZKT and the Russian joint-stock companies Almaz-Antey Air and Space Defense Corporation and Kupol Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant.
“The facility will operate through joint efforts by the plant and the Russian corporation Almaz-Antey, combining the production capacity of the Belarusian enterprise with the expertise of the Russian developer and manufacturer of air defense missile systems,” the Belarusian Defense Ministry reports.
The center will carry out overhauls of 9A331MK combat vehicles forming part of the Tor-M2K air defense system.
“The establishment of the center was the result of consistent joint work within the framework of military-technical cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation. The main result of this work is the ability to carry out repair and restoration work directly on the territory of the Republic of Belarus.
This will make it possible to improve the efficiency of maintenance and repair of Tor air defense systems, reduce the time required to restore weapons and return equipment to service, and, most importantly, ensure the necessary level of their constant readiness to perform their assigned tasks. This is of fundamental importance for the Armed Forces of Belarus,” Lukianovich said.
