The prosecutor’s office has reported the results of its investigation into the incident involving the Dzitva River in the Lida district. Reports of its pollution emerged earlier this month.
According to the prosecutor’s office, laboratory analysis of water samples from the river found pollutant concentrations exceeding permissible limits. The pollution was caused by the discharge of wastewater from municipal treatment facilities into the river. The treatment facilities are currently undergoing modernization.
Following the investigation, the Lida City and District Inspectorate for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection initiated administrative proceedings against the responsible person. An assessment of the environmental damage is underway. The district executive committee has been instructed to promptly complete the reconstruction of the treatment facilities.
