Prosecutor’s Office Explains Inclusion of Book on the Belarusian People’s Republic in Banned List

A book by Dorota Michaluk on the history of the Belarusian People’s Republic was banned from distribution in Belarus because it contradicts the provisions of a directive by Alyaksandr Lukashenka on ideology and may harm Belarus’ national interests. The publication was added to the banned list at the initiative of the Prosecutor’s Office of Horki District.

The prosecutor’s office found the book “The Belarusian People’s Republic 1918–1929: At the Origins of Belarusian Statehood” being sold online and submitted it to the Republican Commission for the Evaluation of Symbols, Attributes and Information Products.

“According to the conclusion of the Republican Commission, certain fragments of the printed publication submitted for evaluation run counter to the provisions of Directive No. 12 of the President of the Republic of Belarus dated 9 April 2025 ‘On the Implementation of the Foundations of the Ideology of the Belarusian State’ and may harm the national interests of the country,” the prosecutor’s office said.

The Ministry of Information included the book in the list of printed publications containing materials whose distribution may harm the national interests of the Republic of Belarus. The edition has been withdrawn from sale.
