Police Penalize Minsk Residents for Taking Part in Russian Blogger’s Contest

The Minsk City Executive Committee’s Department of Internal Affairs is prosecuting young residents of Minsk for participating in a contest announced by a Russian blogger. Participants have been filming videos featuring various “feats,” which police interpret as administrative offenses.

According to Sergey Gorokhov, head of the Department for the Prevention of Offenses at the Minsk City Police Department, each incident has been investigated. The individuals appearing in the videos have been identified, and legal measures have been taken against them.

“The desire for fleeting fame and easy rewards drives young people to forget the limits of what is permitted and pushes them toward offenses such as hooliganism, unauthorized mass gatherings, property damage, and obstructing traffic. These and other actions, performed for the sake of ‘hype,’ are filmed and posted online,” he said.

A video released by the police department also shows footage of a young man who said he had gone to Nemiga Street with a poster advertising an online casino. His actions were classified as unauthorized picketing.

“I carried out unauthorized picketing by walking along Nemiga with a poster showing the blogger and the online casino. I want to warn everyone who plans to promote this advertisement that there will be consequences,” he said.
