Poland Resumes Construction Of Additional Barrier On Border With Belarus — Media

Poland is resuming construction of an additional barrier on the border with Belarus, RMF FM reported.

Plans to build the additional barrier along the technical road running next to the main 5.5-meter-high fence were announced last year. The project was expected to be completed in spring, but construction was suspended during winter due to unfavorable weather conditions.

The barrier will be built by the military. According to the radio station, military engineers have already arrived at border units and are conducting consultations on organizing the work.

The additional mesh barrier will be four meters high. Barbed wire will be installed on top of the fence, with two more coils of razor wire placed behind it. A two-meter fence designed to prevent animals from approaching the barrier is also planned behind the structure.

The additional barrier is intended to create another obstacle for those attempting to cross the border. Overcoming it would require additional time, allowing border guards more time to respond.

Winter weather conditions have also made it harder for migrants attempting to cross into Poland from Belarus. Since the beginning of the year, Polish border guards have recorded only about 60 crossing attempts.
