Passport Of Nobel Laureate Bialiatski Cancelled

The passport of Nobel laureate Ales Bialiatski has been cancelled, as have the passports of many other political prisoners who were recently released and taken out of Belarus. This was reported by the Viasna Human Rights Centre.

“This is another form of transnational repression aimed at making life more difficult for deported political prisoners outside the country. The authorities are ritually cutting our ties with Belarus. It is a futile effort, because Belarus will always be in our actions and hearts,” Bialiatski commented.

As previously reported, some political prisoners were taken out of Belarus without passports. Some were nevertheless issued documents. However, political prisoners recently began noticing that their passports had been cancelled.
