Papal envoy Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti, representing Pope Leo XIV, has arrived in Belarus to take part in celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the Pinsk Diocese, the Telegram channel “Christian Vision” reported.
Gugerotti, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches, was appointed as the Pope’s special envoy for the events in Belarus. Ahead of his visit, he met with Belarus’s ambassador to the Holy See, Yury Ambrazevich.
Claudio Gugerotti is a well-known Vatican diplomat who previously served as Apostolic Nuncio to several countries, including Belarus from 2011 to 2015. He later returned to the country as a special papal envoy in 2020 and 2023.
