An observation tower with a view of the Shelter object — the sarcophagus over the fourth reactor of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant — will open this summer in the Polesia State Radioecological Reserve. This was announced by the reserve’s director Aliaksei Tsishkavets during a press tour marking the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster, BelTA reports.
The observation platform will be located at a height of more than five meters. Safe access will be provided for visitors, infrastructure for guest convenience will be arranged inside, and binoculars will be available for a better view.
“From our territory, in good weather conditions, this object can be seen”, said Aliaksei Kazakou, head of the reserve’s information department.
Construction is currently underway, and the opening is planned for June.
According to the reserve’s director, tourist infrastructure is expanding every year, and the number of visitors increased by more than 1,000 people last year.
