Nine more people have been recognised as political prisoners in Belarus. They are Ivan Tsybulski, Dzmitry Hrachou, Yahor Krakasevich, Aliaksandr Shaipak, Maksim Smirnou, Dzmitry Drobysh, Aliaksandr Petrashkevich, Siarhei Aldaseu, Yauhen Skoczka, the Viasna Human Rights Centre reports.
Ivan Tsybulski was convicted under Article 368 of the Criminal Code on charges of insulting A. Lukashenka — sentenced to one year of restriction of freedom with placement in an open-type correctional facility, and is serving his sentence;
Dzmitry Hrachou was convicted under Articles 369 and 368 of the Criminal Code on charges of insulting a government official and A. Lukashenka — sentenced to imprisonment;
Yahor Krakasevich was convicted under Articles 361 and 368 of the Criminal Code on charges of “calls for unlawful actions aimed at harming the national interests of the Republic of Belarus” and insulting A. Lukashenka — sentenced to imprisonment in a correctional colony;
Aliaksandr Shaipak was convicted under Articles 369 and 368 of the Criminal Code on charges of insulting a government official and A. Lukashenka — sentenced to imprisonment in a correctional colony;
Maksim Smirnou was convicted under Article 368 of the Criminal Code on charges of insulting A. Lukashenka — sentenced to one year of restriction of freedom with placement in an open-type correctional facility, and is serving his sentence;
Dzmitry Drobysh was convicted under Article 361 of the Criminal Code on charges of “calls for unlawful actions aimed at harming the national interests of the Republic of Belarus” — sentenced to imprisonment in a correctional colony;
Aliaksandr Petrashkevich was convicted under Articles 361 and 361-4 of the Criminal Code on charges of “calls for unlawful actions aimed at harming the national interests of the Republic of Belarus” and facilitating an extremist formation — sentenced to imprisonment in a correctional colony;
Siarhei Aldaseu was convicted under Article 368 of the Criminal Code on charges of insulting A. Lukashenka — sentenced to three years of restriction of freedom with placement in an open-type correctional facility, and is serving his sentence;
Yauhen Skoczka was convicted under Articles 368, 367, 361-4 and 369-1 of the Criminal Code on charges of insulting and defaming A. Lukashenka, facilitating an extremist formation and discrediting Belarus — sentenced to imprisonment in a correctional colony.
The number of political prisoners in Belarus stood at 848 as of May 7, 2026.
