In the Vitsyebsk Region, 393 criminal cases of an “extremist” nature were opened and solved in 2025, while the number of unauthorised mass events declined compared with 2024. An annual report containing the data came into the possession of the BELPOL initiative.
According to the report, the total number of registered crimes indeed fell by 10.3 percent, from 8,168 to 7,328, but at the same time the number of the most serious and socially dangerous crimes increased.
The number of murders in 2025 rose by 6.3 percent compared with 2024, from 16 to 17, while the number of cases of intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm resulting in death jumped by 37.5 percent, from 8 to 11. Extortion cases more than doubled, up 133.3 percent from 3 to 7, while fraud increased by 3.4 percent, from 118 to 122 cases.
In the public sector, 32 crimes were identified, compared with 17 in 2024. Of these, 15 cases were classified as serious and 18 as corruption-related. The number of suspects increased from 12 to 32.
The number of crimes at city-forming and systemically important enterprises rose from 32 to 62. The number of corruption cases increased from 14 to 26, while the number of individuals involved grew from 11 to 53.
In the agro-industrial sector, 80 crimes were recorded, compared with just 29 in 2024. Almost all of them were related to concealing cattle deaths.
The number of crimes related to illegal drug trafficking formally decreased by 1.7 percent, from 358 to 352, however the number of distribution cases increased by 2.3 percent, from 172 to 176.
In the area of combating human trafficking, a decline in the total number of crimes was recorded, down 21.8 percent from 275 to 215, but the number of criminal cases related to the distribution of child pornography rose by 14.9 percent. The number of identified pedophiles fell from 70 to 55, but more child victims were identified, 123 in 2025 compared with 107 a year earlier.
The number of cybercrimes increased by 1.7 percent, with 2,131 cases recorded.
Last year, 15 adolescents in the Vitsyebsk Region died from external causes, compared with 19 in 2024. Of these, six died by suicide.
The number of “extremist” crimes amounted to 393, with a clearance rate of 96.2 percent.
The number of unauthorised mass events fell significantly from 204 to 58, but the number of participants in them increased from 204 to 357. The Interior Ministry classified as such events the celebration of the New Year, which was marked by about 300 citizens of Sri Lanka.
In 2025, the region recorded a 3.3 percent rise in foreign-related crime. The number of crimes committed by foreigners who arrived for study increased by 128 percent.
Over the year, 27 groups of migrants, totalling 152 people, were detained in the region. The deaths of 19 migrants were recorded.
