Polish President Karol Nawrocki highlighted the role of US President Donald Trump in the release of political prisoner Andrzej Poczobut. The Polish leader spoke about this at a briefing in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

“Andrzej Poczobut is already in the Republic of Poland, released by the Lukashenka regime. He is a man who has shown how strong Polish identity and commitment to values can be. He paid a high price for this in a harsh prison,” Nawrocki said, according to the presidential office.

The president noted that Poczobut had been awarded the Order of the White Eagle. “I invite Mr Andrzej to receive the Order of the White Eagle after completing the entire process of adaptation,” he said.

He stressed that the process of securing Poczobut’s release, which had been very lengthy, had now come to an end. He said the process had been reinforced by discussions with President Donald Trump and had effectively begun in September 2025.

“The process of release was very long, it was strengthened by my conversation with Donald Trump — I asked that the US president not forget about the Pole who was in a Belarusian prison,” Nawrocki added.
