Nauseda Pledges Continued Support for Missions to Free Belarusian Political Prisoners

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda said he had met with U.S. President’s Special Envoy John Coale and pledged continued support for humanitarian missions to free political prisoners in Belarus.

This evening, I met with U.S. President’s Special Envoy for Belarus John Coale. Lithuania values the consistent efforts of U.S. President Donald Trump, as well as John Coale’s personal engagement, to secure the release of political prisoners in Belarus. We will continue to provide the necessary support for these humanitarian missions,” he wrote on X.

Today, following talks between John Coale and Aliaksandr Lukashenka, 25 people were released. They were taken from Belarus to Lithuania. In exchange, the United States will lift sanctions on Bellesbumprom and Lakokraska. Coale also said that the release of political prisoners and the lifting of sanctions will continue.
