The United States will continue easing sanctions, while Belarusian authorities will continue releasing prisoners, U.S. President’s Special Envoy John Coale said following talks in Minsk. According to him, the sides reached preliminary agreements and work will continue.
“It is a great pleasure to be in the country once again. We held our negotiations for a very long time today. These negotiations will continue.
We have made a great deal of progress from my perspective, and we will continue our joint work,” he said.
According to him, the talks covered international issues, the bilateral agenda and other matters of mutual interest.
“We agreed on an interim agreement, an understanding,” he said.
Coale announced the lifting of sanctions on Bellesbumprom and Lakokraska and the release of 25 prisoners in Belarus.
“The sides will continue working to resolve the remaining issues. When all issues have been resolved and agreed upon by both sides, there will be additional releases of individuals and the lifting of sanctions on Belarusian companies.
We will continue our negotiations. This has all been very productive. And, as usual, I thank Belarus and very much thank President Lukashenka,” he concluded.
