Moldovan Carrier Understates Value of Chocolate Shipment Upon Entry to Belarus

Hrodna customs officers have prevented the import of a shipment of chocolate into Belarus after its value was significantly understated.

A Moldovan carrier entered Belarus from Lithuania through the Beniakoni border crossing. The vehicle was transporting a shipment of chocolate, but its value was declared at several times below its actual worth. Customs officers established that the real value of the shipment was 460,000 Belarusian roubles. By providing false information in the declaration, the carrier attempted to avoid paying more than 45,000 Belarusian roubles in customs duties.

Administrative proceedings have been initiated. The carrier will have to pay the outstanding customs duties as well as a fine of up to 30% of the value of the goods, the State Customs Committee said.
