Minsk Views Attack on Belarusian Truck in Russia’s Bryansk Region as Deliberate

On October 9, Ukraine’s chargé d’affaires in Belarus, Ivan Novitsky, was summoned to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry. He was handed a note of protest over a drone attack on a Belarusian-registered truck in Russia’s Bryansk Region that injured a Belarusian citizen.

The Belarusian Foreign Ministry said the strike was carried out by a Ukrainian drone. Belarus considers the attack deliberate.

“The reason for the summons was yesterday’s attack by a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle on a Belarusian-registered truck in Russia’s Bryansk Region. The attack left a Belarusian citizen with severe injuries.

The diplomat was handed a note of protest stating that Kyiv had previously been warned that such actions were unacceptable. The vehicle’s registration was clearly visible, and the Belarusian side has grounds to regard the attack as deliberate,” the ministry’s statement said.

Minsk called on Ukraine to stop provocations and warned that it would take “appropriate response measures.”

“The Ukrainian side has been warned against repeating such actions. It was emphasised that the Ukrainian authorities bear full responsibility for their consequences. Belarus reserves the right to take appropriate response measures.

The Belarusian side called for an end to provocations that lead to escalation,” the statement said.

On October 8, the Foreign Ministry reported a drone strike on a Belarusian-registered truck in Russia’s Bryansk Region. The vehicle’s passenger, a Belarusian citizen, sustained severe injuries. Her limbs were amputated. The woman remains in intensive care.
