Belarusian Citizen Injured In Drone Attack On Truck In Bryansk Region

A Belarusian citizen was seriously injured in a drone attack on a truck with Belarusian license plates in Russia’s Bryansk Region. The incident occurred on October 8.

Belarusian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ruslan Varankou said the woman required limb amputations due to severe injuries and is currently in intensive care.

“Due to the severe injuries she sustained, she required surgery, including limb amputations. The victim is currently in the intensive care unit in extremely serious but stabilized condition. She is on a ventilator. She is receiving full medical care,” Varankou said.

Staff of the Belarusian Embassy in Russia and the embassy’s branch in Smolensk are providing the necessary assistance and are in contact with local authorities and the medical facility.

The Belarusian Foreign Ministry reiterated its recommendation against traveling to Russia.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus previously warned of the increased danger and recommended that citizens refrain from traveling to this area. However, these warnings did not have the desired effect. Today’s incident confirms the relevance of this recommendation,” Varankou said.

The Foreign Ministry considers the situation an attempt to involve Belarus in the conflict.

“The act committed is of an inhumane nature. We see it as an attempt to escalate the situation in the region, as well as part of coordinated actions aimed at involving Belarus in the conflict,” the Foreign Ministry representative said.

Bryansk Region Governor Yegor Kovalchuk said that drones attacked two trucks today near the village of Smotrova Buda in the Klintsy District on the Bryansk–Novozybkov highway.

“In one case, the driver suffered shrapnel wounds; in the other, a female passenger was injured,” he wrote.
