A citizen of an East Asian country has fallen victim to fraudsters in Minsk. The case was reported by the Interior Ministry’s press service.
The foreign national wanted to buy cryptocurrency. Two Minsk residents, aged 31 and 36, met with him. After receiving a bag containing cash from the victim, they swapped it for another bag filled with counterfeit banknotes. The suspects then pretended to count the money. During the count, they accused the victim of fraud, claiming that he had paid with fake currency. They then fled the scene.
The damage was estimated at $130,000.
The suspects have been identified and detained. Part of the stolen money has been recovered and returned to its owner.
A criminal case has been opened on charges of fraud on an especially large scale.
