The Partizanski District Court of Minsk has sentenced a 56-year-old man to eight years in prison and a fine of 22,500 Belarusian rubles. He was found guilty of stealing funds from bank cards.
According to the case materials, between May and December 2024, he accepted payments to accounts belonging to companies under his control from bank cards of foreign nationals whose card details had previously been compromised. He then withdrew the money and passed it on to other participants in the scheme, the Minsk Prosecutor’s Office reported.
The victims were unaware that their card details had been compromised and transferred money when purchasing goods online. The payments were routed to accounts controlled by the defendant.
In this way, the Minsk resident stole more than 500,000 Belarusian rubles. Citizens of more than 30 countries were affected. The man has not compensated the victims for the losses.
The court found him guilty under Part 4 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code. In addition to the prison sentence and fine, he was banned from holding certain positions for five years. More than 520,000 Belarusian rubles were also confiscated from him in favor of the state.
