The merchandise foreign trade deficit in 2025 amounted to $6.975 billion. Over the year, it increased by 29.9 percent, according to data published today by Belstat.
Belarusian exports last year grew by 2.6 percent to $41.4 billion, while imports of goods increased by 5.8 percent to $48.37 billion.
In trade with CIS countries, exports of Belarusian goods increased by 5.6 percent to $30.46 billion. Imports grew at a faster pace, rising by 7 percent to $28.13 billion. The merchandise trade surplus with CIS countries amounted to $2.335 billion, which is 8.3 percent less than in 2024.
Exports outside the CIS declined by 4.9 percent last year to $10.93 billion, while imports increased by 4.3 percent to $20.24 billion. The trade deficit with countries outside the CIS reached $9.31 billion, which is 17.6 percent more than in 2024.
In December, Belarusian exports showed a notable increase. They rose by 31.7 percent compared with December 2024 to $4.2 billion. Imports increased by 21.3 percent to $5.18 billion. The foreign trade deficit in December amounted to $975.5 million, which is 7.6 percent more than in December 2024. The December merchandise trade deficit was the largest monthly figure recorded last year.
In trade with CIS countries, Belarusian exports in December grew by 34.1 percent to $3 billion. Imports increased by 22.9 percent to $2.955 billion. The foreign trade surplus with CIS countries amounted to $43.7 million.
Exports of goods outside the CIS in December increased by 26.2 percent to $1.2 billion. At the same time, imports from these countries rose by 19.2 percent to $2.23 billion, and the merchandise trade deficit with non-CIS countries amounted to $1.02 billion, which is 11.9 percent more than in December 2024.
