Mayday.Team: Border Crossing Between Belarus and Russia Closed Again

In Homiel region, operations at the Selishche road checkpoint and its Russian counterpart, Krasny Kamen, on the road toward Bryansk have again been suspended. Belarusian drivers report that security forces are turning vehicles around and preventing them from reaching the checkpoint, Mayday.Team reports.

According to unofficial information from the outlet, the reason may have been a drone strike on a truck on the highway.

Russian border guards are directing truck drivers to another route into Belarus, farther north, through the settlement of Verkhlichy on the border with Chechersk district of Homiel region.

Bryansk media reported a massive drone attack on the night of Aug. 26, but did not publish information about a direct strike on the Krasny Kamen checkpoint.

A similar incident occurred at this section of the border on Aug. 11. The checkpoint was reportedly temporarily closed after a drone strike that set two trucks on fire. Turkish news agency IHA published video from the Belarusian-Russian border filmed by truck drivers. The footage showed a truck on fire and another vehicle with a damaged cab. Drivers reported a drone strike and an explosion near the border. According to IHA, Iranian and Belarusian citizens were killed and injured in the attack.

In early July, a Belarusian bus traveling from Minsk to Anapa came under attack on the same border route. According to the Belarusian Health Ministry, two drivers and a passenger were injured. The Krasny Kamen checkpoint also temporarily suspended operations after the incident.

The Selishche/Krasny Kamen road checkpoint in Homiel region is closed again on the road to Bryansk (also known as the Zlynka route).
