A one-year-old Yorkshire terrier died after falling from the ninth floor of a building in Hrodna. A suspect has been arrested, and a criminal case has been opened on suspicion of animal cruelty resulting in death, the Hrodna Regional Executive Committee’s Department of Internal Affairs reports.

The incident occurred on the night of October 6-7 in the Alshanka residential district. A friend visited a 41-year-old woman at her apartment, and the guest’s 45-year-old husband joined them later. The group was drinking alcohol. At some point, the man began behaving aggressively and using physical force. Fearing for their safety, the women ran out of the apartment and called the police from a neighbour’s home.

The man and the apartment owner’s Yorkshire terrier remained inside. According to preliminary information, the dog tried to protect the woman. The man picked up the pet, and some time later the animal was found on the ground after falling from the ninth floor.

Officers from the Aktyabrsky District Department of Internal Affairs arrived at the scene and arrested the man. He was placed in a temporary detention facility.
