Aliaksandr Lukashenka said he was looking for a private investor for Rasony District, following the example of Vierkhniadzvinsk District, where he decided to transfer some land to businessman Mikalai Varabei, who is close to him.
Both Belarusian and Russian investors are being considered.
“As for Rasony District, I am also planning to find a private investor there. If not, the state will take care of it. But Rasony District is even more challenging than Vierkhnyadzvinsk District, and we cannot abandon it. If we make a serious investment and find people who approach the task with dedication, as they do here in Asveya, Rasony District will see substantial development. I do not rule out the possibility that the entrepreneurs will be not only Belarusian but Russian as well. I will not name them. I will speak with them, and if they are ready to invest, we will invest,” Lukashenka said.
He proposed creating holiday resorts in the district and in nature reserves so that people would spend their money in Belarus rather than take it abroad.
“But what was important to me, after looking around here, was to consider how to continue. And we will continue — with the Berazinsky Biosphere Reserve, the landscape reserve in Liaskovichi, Belavezhskaya Pushcha and the Braslau Lakes. These are state-owned nature reserves, and substantial holiday resorts need to be built there so that people have places to work and we can easily go there to relax.
Look at the weather we have today and had yesterday. I have travelled all over the world, and nowhere comes close to what we have here. People will be happy to spend their holidays here. So we need to get people used to spending their money at home rather than taking it elsewhere. … A German once told me that he had gone hunting and shot a trophy stag worth 27,000 euros. That is why we need to develop this sector and move in that direction,” Lukashenka said, outlining his plans.
During a visit to Verkhnyadzvinsk District on October 16, Lukashenka said he was prepared to transfer some land plots to Varabei to develop production and promised to provide subsidies.
