The holding’s CEO, Mikhail Symanovich, reported on progress in import substitution. According to him, in 2009, the company had to purchase a German bogie costing €350,000, as well as German and Polish electrical equipment, to manufacture a tram. Today, Belkommunmash produces bogies of its own design and manufactures power electronics. It has also mastered the production of domestically made motors for trolleybuses and trams. In addition, it has developments underway with BelGee, while the Motovelo Plant is testing Belarusian motors for electric motorcycles and scooters.
“Can you make a world-class motor for a passenger car, on a par with those produced by Western manufacturers or the Chinese?” Lukashenka asked.
“We can,” Industry Minister Andrei Kuzniatsou replied.
“That is important to me. Yes, you have learned how to make these large motors…” Lukashenka responded.
“This is the key area of expertise here. Building on this expertise, we can certainly scale down. We understand how it works. We have now moved to the second stage with BelGee — electric cars. Next year, we will begin developing working motors,” Kuzniatsou assured him.
Earlier, he had already been tasked with establishing domestic production of high-quality hydraulic equipment in Belarus. Lukashenka is also expecting his subordinates to develop a milking robot and a round baler.
