Alyaksandr Lukashenka, speaking at the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly, said that media reports about MAZ buses catching fire are a manifestation of competition and that in reality “nothing was burning.”
“Efficiency and quality are an axiom of the competitiveness of Belarusian products. The tools that are widely used around the world — so-called lean management — have been implemented here in a very fragmented manner. Step up work within the framework of the quality mark revived at the state level, which has become our most prestigious award for manufacturers. Only quality and impeccable service will ensure our survival and additional earnings. We cannot continue to sell our products, including abroad, without providing proper service,” he said.
“As for quality, I do not even want to talk about it. Let the products be one or two percent more expensive — MAZ, BelAZ, MTZ, and so on — but they must be high-quality products. You see what kind of competition there is: every time, a bus supposedly catches fire somewhere, or it is allegedly set on fire elsewhere, and so on. We start looking into it — and nothing was burning. This is competition: they are simply trying to pressure us this way and show that our products are of poor quality. But if there are questions about our quality, they need to be eliminated,” he added.
