Lukashenka Calls Himself “Outgoing” But Says He Does Not Plan To Leave Tomorrow

Alyaksandr Lukashenka once again described himself as an outgoing leader but said he does not intend to abandon his post in the near future. He made the remarks while addressing the newly appointed prosecutor general and the chairman of the Investigative Committee.

“I am a person who is on the way out. Although many have seized on this: ‘Ah, outgoing!..’ Some are worried, some are happy. This does not mean that tomorrow we will drop everything and leave — myself included. But it is clear that I am no longer the same person who was working as president in the first or second year. This means that I will strictly uphold the rights and interests of our people,” Lukashenka said.

Lukashenka began saying that he does not cling to power “with blue fingers” even before the 2020 elections. From time to time, he raises the topic of a successor and states that he is not eternal and may step aside, but, according to him, he is persuaded to run again.
