Alyaksandr Lukashenka, during a meeting with Union State Secretary of State Sergei Glazyev, said that in negotiations with the United States he is not solving his problems at Russia’s expense.
According to him, there is no need to worry about the policy of US President Donald Trump. He described Trump’s tactic as applying pressure and then stepping back, adding that he feels confident in talks with the American side.
“This is his tactic. A strong country, a powerful one, a world leader. That is his tactic. And there is no need to attack him or pile on here. I am not defending him, but this is indeed the case. This is his tactic. We feel it very well in negotiations with the United States of America. And we manage in these negotiations to resolve our own issues,” Lukashenka said.
“But under no circumstances are we resolving these issues at the expense of our brotherly and close Russia,” he stressed.
It should be recalled that last year, as a result of negotiations between Lukashenka and US special envoy John Coale, as well as representatives of the US State Department, American sanctions on Belavia and the domestic potash industry were eased. Lukashenka, for his part, released and expelled from Belarus a number of political prisoners.
