Lukashenka Appoints New Deputy Commander of Special Operations Forces

Alyaksandr Lukashenka has signed a decree appointing Colonel Uladzimir Safonau as chief of staff and first deputy commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Belarusian Armed Forces, his press service said.

Safonau previously served as commander of the 103rd Viciebsk Separate Guards Airborne Brigade.

The post of chief of staff and first deputy commander of the Special Operations Forces had been held by Aliaksandr Ilyukevich. In early January, he was appointed commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Belarusian Armed Forces.
