A total of 185 trucks with Lithuanian licence plates remain blocked in Belarus, said Dovilė Kraulaidienė, deputy director general of Lithuania’s customs service, on 9 December, ELTA reported.
“As of today, after verifying the data and reviewing internal cameras located on Lithuanian territory that allow us to monitor the situation on the roads, we can confirm that, according to our information, only 185 vehicles remain,” Kraulaidienė said.
According to her, of these vehicles, 91 tractor units and 49 trailers belong to the National Road Carriers’ Association Linava, while 28 tractor units and 17 trailers do not. Several tractor units have Russian licence plates.
The deputy head of Lithuanian customs noted that queues to leave Lithuania for Belarus have been growing recently. On Tuesday, around 500 trucks were waiting to exit through Miedininkai and around 300 through Šalčininkai.
“More tractor units with Lithuanian licence plates are leaving the country than entering it, but they are likely returning through other border crossings,” Kraulaidienė said.
At today’s meeting of the Security Council, Alyaksandr Lukashenka demanded that Lithuania begin negotiations without the involvement of third parties and proposed buying perishable goods from Lithuanian carriers. He also issued several demands to Lithuania: the return of fire engines intended for Zimbabwe, the normalisation of operations of the sanatorium in Druskininkai, and the return of funds related to the port of Klaipėda.
