Lithuanian Border Guards Discover New Tunnel Under Border

Lithuanian border guards have discovered a new tunnel at the border with Belarus. A total of 38 migrants entered Lithuania through it, including 36 men and two women. They identified themselves as citizens of Afghanistan and Iran.

The migrants were detained on Monday evening in the Šalčininkai area. They were located by border guard patrols supported by canine units, a helicopter and drones.

Thirty-six of those detained identified themselves as citizens of Afghanistan, with 23 carrying documents. Two others said they were citizens of Iran but had no documents.

A decision was made to return the foreigners to Belarusian territory. They were offered humanitarian packages containing food and essential items, but only four accepted them.

Lithuanian border guards previously discovered tunnels under the border on April 6 and May 6.
