Lithuanian Border Guards Detain Belarusian Wanted via Interpol

Lithuanian border guards on Sunday detained a Belarusian citizen while he was entering Lithuania at the Medininkai border crossing. He was wanted internationally at the request of Danish police. It is reported that the man was placed on the wanted list a month ago.

The Belarusian citizen was placed in a temporary detention facility and was later handed over to Vilnius police, who transferred him to the capital’s detention centre.

The statement did not specify the grounds on which the Belarusian citizen had been declared wanted through Interpol.

This year, Lithuanian border guards have detained 73 people who were wanted by domestic and foreign law enforcement agencies. Among them were two Latvian citizens. However, the majority of those detained — 58 people — were Lithuanian citizens.
